'Gangaur', based on celebrated writer Mahasweta Devi's tale of a young tribal woman living in the Naxal belt of India, is the only Indian entry in competition at the prestigious Rome Film Festival.

Directed by reknowned Italian helmer Italo Spinelli, the film is an adaptation of Mahasweta's famous story 'Choli Ke Peeche' and will premiere at the festival on October 31.

The story revolves around a tribal woman whose is ostracised from her community and raped after she is clicked while breast-feeding her child by a foreign photographer.

Veteran journalist Divang who plays the editor of a newspaper in the film said that the cast along with the author will be present at the film's international premiere.

"I had met Italo 11 years ago and had given him a copy of the book. He has been wanting to make the film for long and he visited Mahasweta in Kolkata to ask for permission to do so before filming," said Divang.
